National Strata Management Benchmarking Survey

The National Strata Management Benchmarking Survey for 2005 was commissioned by Macquarie Bank as a result of its significance to the continued growth of the community and strata title industry in Australia. The survey was completed in November 2005, and the results are now available.

Benchmarking can help you to make informed business decisions and grow wealth by assessing your business performance and marketplace trends.

The project is a first, as it provides two distinct options to assess the performance of your business:

The 'Business Snapshot' is free to participating strata businesses. By submitting your data, you receive a report that illustrates the performance of your business relative to strata businesses of a similar size.

The 'Performance Benchmarks' will benchmark the operations of your key performance indicators against those of similar and high performing strata businesses. You will also receive a tailored report detailing the strengths of your business and potential improvement strategies.

The National Community Titles Institute has endorsed the project.

What is Benchmarking?

Benchmarking, in its simplest definition, is the process of learning by making comparisons. You can compare your performance against that of your counterparts to identify areas of your business that are doing well and areas that may need improvement.

What is the Process?

1. Survey Form sent to all NCTI members.

2. Data is recorded by FMRC Legal

3. Benchmarks are calculated and analysed by FMRC Legal.

4. Personalised benchmarking report sent to you.

Who sees your data?

FMRC Legal collects all data and will not disclose data to the NCTI, Macquarie Bank Limited, or any other party in a format that allows individual businesses to be specifically identified. Macquarie Bank Limited will own and have access to de-identified data for further analysis.

What do you receive?

Your confidential report provides an analysis of your performance, relative to other strata/community titles management businesses, in six key performance measures, as well as over sixty other measures.

For confidentiality purposes, you will not be able to individually identify other businesses.

The report will allow you to quickly assess important issues such as:

  • Profitability
  • Income Sources and Collection
  • Salary
  • Marketing
  • Insurance and other Overhead Expenditure
  • Staffing
  • Output
  • Practice Management

How much does it cost?

The cost to participate in the Business Snapshot survey is free, and the Performance Benchmarks Survey is $1375 (including GST).

NCTI Privacy Act Project Feedback

The NCTI Privacy Act Project was implemented early 2003, and consisted of a number of guidelines for managers to use in their businesses to ensure compliance with the new Privacy Act requirements. We wish to invite your feedback on the use of these documents, and have attached a Survey for this purpose.

The completed survey can be faxed to the NCTI Secretariat at (07) 3257 3932 or mailed to PO Box 2477, Fortitude Valley BC QLD 4006.

General Information

The National Community Titles Institute (NCTI) has developed in association with legal firm Andreones Pty Ltd, privacy policy documents for members’ use in liaising with their clients.

The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 came into effect for community and strata title industry practitioners on 21 December 2002. The amendments indicate obligations in the management of client’s personal information, addressing issues such as security of information and client access.

To assist members in abiding by these new requirements, the NCTI has developed documents that will assist managers in communicating these changes to clients. These documents include:

1. Sample letter that managers can use to send to owners with the Privacy Policy
2. Detailed Privacy Policy
3. Short Form Privacy Policy (abbreviated version of Detailed Privacy Policy)
4. One-page flyer on privacy law issues in group title schemes
5. Overview paper about privacy law issues in group title schemes.

In outlining your business’ privacy procedures, you may wish to send any combination of these documents to clients.

Please note that the above documents are copyright and remain the intellectual property of National Community Titles Institute Inc. Only NCTI members are authorized to reproduce the documents as required, however the document may not be changed.

For a copy of the documents, please contact your State Affiliate body. The State Affiliate contact details can be found on this web site on the “Regions” web page.
